As part of my new marketing program that will allow me to have a few foals but have them in new homes at weaning time, we have bought a double homozgous stallion, a minmal black tobiano stallion with two startling blue eyes. If we, meaning myself and my platinum level enabler friend, Diane Magdalin looked at one, we looked at a thousand of them before choosing this boy.
Bought him from Michelle Simmons in CA who assured me he was 16 hands and if I didn't like him on delivery she would take him back. Hmmm, her stick obviously had the first few inches cut off because he is 14.3 hands and not going to get any taller. Had a horrible name so I gladly paid APHA the hundred dollars to change it to: ------
DECEIVED
which pretty much reflects my feelings about the purchase. But "Harry" is good minded, moves like he is 16 hands. He has a good head and neck, a hip that ties way down and the right slope to his shoulder. I talked to his breeders, got some pictures of his ancestors and am happy to know he is not a fluke conformation wise. So we will breed some mare to him this year and start anticipating a 2009 foal crop of all colored foals, none of which will be red either.
The Grand Illusion
1981 Sorrel Overo Stallion
On March 3rd 2006, the day after his 26th birthday, Illusion suffered what we believe was a major rupture of an artery and died after a very short, painful attack. It was really strange, Illusion trotted up the hill to the barn like he was going up to see a new mare – no signs of any problems except he was really sweating. He had lived with us since 1995, been a valuable part of our horse family and big part of our hearts with his personality. His 3 live in wives grieved for him for quite awhile. They kept expecting to come back down the hill from the barn to their pen again.
I ART TO HAVE COLOR
"I Art To Have Color", better known to his fans as Artie is a 16.3 hand 2002 Bay Stallion. . Sired By Artful Move, the Leading Sire of QH English Performance Horses, we would need a whole page to list his accomplishments so we invite you to just check him out on www.qhd.com. Artie's dam, Symphony of Color earned 137 HUS points herself before becoming a broodmare.
She is also excelling in her new career having produced The Specialist, Reserve World Champion HUS Stallion and Zippo Sent Me, Multiple Superior Western Pleasure Horse. After seeing Indian Artifacts, Art I Sweet, Artful Investment just to mention a few of the Artful Moves at the QH Congress this fall, I am in love and think that this colt may be the smartest buy I have ever made (well, maybe except for my beloved Beverly)Artie has begun his career as a breeding stallion, his first mare to cover was Invest In A Holiday and he was a gentleman and quite the lover for a beginner.
Artie spent some time with Cathy Playdon in the spring of 2007 learning how to jump and did really well. While she headed off to Africa on holiday, Shelly McDonald a dressage coach took over his education and soon had him ready for training level dressage. Both gals said he was both very smart and talented, but we had made the decision to sell him as part of the major downsizing.
Ted and Tina Gray and Ted's mom, Dorothy comprise Rippling Meadows Paints in Rocky Mountain House called to say they wanted him to be part of their very successful program and off he went. Ted will stand him to the public, has already had several inquiries and has some foals coming in 2008.Check out his new home at www.ripplingmeadowspaints.com
BODYGUARD
1993 Chestnut Solid Stallion
"Chuckie" arrived in Alberta inutero when we purchased his dam, Teddys Sparkle in foal to Dirty Sonny from Greg Reisinger in Iowa. Born 3 weeks early, he arrived very unexpectedly on January 1st and immediately became "a people horse". When he was 10 yrs old we had an opportunity to sell him and we reluctantly did that, with regret. But then last fall I received this wonderful email from Jane Conradson:
We are the proud new owners of a Stallion you raised and bred to some of your mares, Bodyguard. Ed and Jane Conradson of Simi Valley Ca. I would like to start off by saying what a GREAT job you have done raising such a well behaved and mannered horse. He is a gentleman at all times. We are so happy with him! We Just got him and we are wondering if you ever broke him to ride because he has had some good ground work. We would like to promote him in whatever areas possible so any information would be most helpful, and to his benefit of course. Even if he wasn't broke he responds so well i don't think he will be that difficult. If they are in the public eye around here they get breedings. He will be treated well and get a lot of attention. Thanks for raising such a wonderful guy! Ed and Jane Conradson
So, although he is now living in California and loved by The Conradsons, he is still here in our hearts and will continue to be “one of our stallions”. Want to update everyone on Chuckie’s new career. Jane has been showing in games and barrels in APHAs PAC Program. As of July he is leading the nation in the Games Division and Number 5 in Barrels. The Conradsons are moving to Texas where a whole new group of people will be introduced to this handsome, talented stud. Want to update everyone on Chuckie’s new career.
