Many thanks to our friends Peter and Carolyn Rogers who invited us to the steak and rib night at the Bruce Hotel last night to celebrate their anniversary and Carolyns birthday. There is a very long wait for reservations. So we cleaned ourselves up and headed east to Bruce. Coming towards us was a fancy corvette convertible followed by two more, and then more and more along with some old mustang convertibles. Was like having your very own car show. Turned out they all went for supper at The Bruce Hotel.

Very old, funky place owned and staffed by super people who make you feel like family immediately. Food is beyond description, they cook your steak to order and get it right. Owner told us she cooked 231 steaks Saturday night. Bonus, at 9 pm, she quits cooking, came over to our table and asked if we would like to take some ribs and other food home with us. Handed us two boxes each to fill, one for ribs and the other for other goodies - 10.00 for both boxes. So we drove home in a car filled with the aroma of ribs and already looking forward to lunch today.

Tomorrow we are off to deliver the two geldings to Shannon Zavaduk and then head to Okla to pick up horses that came in from Germany for a client.  I get to drive the new to us truck home from Ok - I see many stops along the way - kinda like a crow who stops for bright, shiny things. First stop, Susan Bartas place in Gibbon Ne to get her to make good on a promise to hit some antique stores in her area.

Well they say life is full of surprises and I got my surprise the other morning while out giving the mares their grain. Brett The Hitman Hart was flat out sound asleep so I went over to make sure he was okay, his tail was up and voila, there was a vagina. Stopped me dead in my tracks, thinking, hmm, no fillies out here, where did she come from? Got the foal up and discovered that Brett is really Bridget. Do I feel stupid or what? Checked when he/she was born - thought colt and with the rotten weather never really checked again. Did I mention I need cataract surgery? LOL

Immediately let the new owners know and gave them the option of changing their mind which they did as they want a colt - we may do a deal on Charleston instead. Wayne suggested Fair Exchange for his registered name showing he does have a sense of humor.

Yesterday our farrier brought us two guinea fowl, a lavender colored male and a dark female. Boy they are million milers and so smart. He said to lock them in the barn for 3 days and then they will consider it home and stay put. Ten minutes later they escaped the barn and went touring - think they have already explored most of the place and by 9 pm they were back in the barn on their own roosting for the night. How smart is that.?

Well it sucks getting older. Off to the eye specialist yesterday, the 18th and after many funky tests and the good ole dilate your pupils drops he said I have to have cataract surgery - probably in late August. Yesterday was a gorgeous day, came home wearing the big black sunglasses and couldn't do much of anything outside cause I couldn't see anything. But, hopefully by fall, I'll be seeing super good again.

Going to list the rest of the mares and foals for sale this weekend both on here and a couple of  horse classified sites. So if you see something on our site that catches your eye and your heart, let me know.

Stacey is bringing out Davian, our great grandson today - she is babysitting him for the weekend - so, we'll introduce him to horses, cats and Annie and some good old fashioned dirt playing outside in the sun.

Yahoooo - Walters test results are in from U of Davis - like his sire, he is double homozygous for both tobiano and the black gene. Now to find him a special name

Big thank you to Kim Frizzell who called early this morning to say she wanted Doubles Holly Dolly to join her family. Bonus or at least I think so, she owns a lovely TB stallion to breed her to in 2011. That should be a great cross for an all round prospect. So, we have bred her to Deceived, we'll preg check her and Kim can come and pick her up.

Another big thank you to Corrinne Tateson who chose Delectable, our very cute black tobiano filly to become part of their family. I promised to keep her updated on her progress with lots of pictures like we do with Brett The Hitman Hart and his new owners, Wayne and Julie.

Been a pretty good day!!

Jun 14, 2010

Only 4pm and it's been a great day so far. Randy, my son came out, fired up the chain saw and cleared a big area of deadfall while I was the slave labourer picking it up and stacking it for burning. Amazing how good it looks after a couple of hours of work.

Our other son, Robin has decided that the garage is going to get cleaned out and has been pushing Bruce - so far 4 big loads to the dump, some stuff given away and he's built 30 feet of workbench/storage area.  Been at it off and on for several days now.

And went out and got updated px of the foals so I can get the rest of them registered this week. Bonus, think we have sold Delectable - will know for sure tonight.

I have a fan - welcome to Jen Arias of SD who found our online home while roaming around and took the time to read my ramblings. Thanks much!!

Day 3 of sunshine and warm weather -- got my little deck on the feed shed painted, need one more coat on the floor. Pain in the butt unloading grain now - never thought about that when I decided to build it but we'll manage because we have no choice. LOL

Moved Dennis The Menace and Mark into the big pen on the south side of the driveway seeing as how they are here till the end of the month now. It's about 600 feet long by 100 feet wide so they had a great time and even some grass in there for entertainment value. And they can see the 3 mares and 2 foals across the driveway so have some company.

Tomorrow morning going out in the field to take px -- afternoon is no good they are all out flat sunbathing and enjoying the warm weather.

And some mare px as several them will be  looking for new homes once they are bred. Hoping firm to only keeping 4 mares and Chickie + studly for the winter.

Wake up to blue sky and sunshine - wonderful. Should be able to see and hear the grass grown this weekend and hopefully the hay fields too.

Shannon Zavaduk called me late on Wed night and said "tell Bruce to drop the boys off here". Told her I would need some references. LOL!! So at the end of the month, they will head off on hopefully their last trailer ride for quite awhile.

Hopefully on Saturday we can get some new pictures of all the foals and list them for sale along with a couple of the mares who thru no fault of their own - just our decision to keep the 4 oldies will make some new owners very happy.

I am going outside to enjoy the day

Okay, just when you think  things are going really well - (outside of the continual rain) -- an email wakes you, smacks you in the face and reminds you that you should listen to that tiny, niggling little "don't do it" thought at the back  of your mind.

So, the two geldings, Mark and Dennis The Menace are looking again for a good home where they will be loved and FED on a regular basis. They have been dewormed, deloused, feet trimmed and fed.  Have been gelded, wolf teeth removed and vaccinated. They now move better, look like some one loves them. They lead, tie, lunge, load like seasoned pros thanks to their travels around Alberta. I will need references this time round from anyone who is interested in taking them. Price is simply my cost for the gelding of each of them.

Bruce was right when he said "Be careful what you wish for" - only Wed morning and we already have inch and half of rain this week and more coming today and tomorrow. OVERLOAD!!

Monday night, I looked at Claudia - tiny drop of wax - so thought I'll bring her in the barn tomorrow or the next day. Tuesday morning after a night of rain, I go to give the mares their grain and no Claudia -- I call - no answer - so with a pounding heart  I go searching for her. Way up the back - I find her and Gene Kelly - he is dry which is amazing, ate, pooped and she has cleaned. I decided to leave them there as the dog Annie is with me and getting them thru the herd could be more fun than I wanted to handle.  An hour later - she comes down by herself, her friends all check out Gene and everything is good.

Tuesday night, Annie our lab/wolfhound cross (aka shedding machine) went for a beauty treatment in hopes of getting rid of a lot of hair. Apparently she screamed loudly when they tried to do her butt and belly (guess she is very shy) but she is looking much nicer and hopefully will shed less.

Woke up two days in a row to sunshine. Whoohooo!!

As proof of how dry we are - after all that rain and snow - I cut grass yesterday and picked up deadfall in my shoes.Normally would be slop for a week. But it rained so hard, so much that it literally washed the fresh paint off my new little deck railings.

Put two other mares and foals out in the big field - gave them time to look around and then put Barry, the stallion out with them. Let the fun begin. Two mares were in heat so he can get busy right away.

Carol Rose, Juliet and their two fillies will live with Chickie in a small pasture - not going to breed Carol Rose again and Rachel, Juliets filly has some leg issues that need to fix themselves.

Dewormed Dennis and Mark again, got to brush them too - got a lot of the "old" mud off their legs, they are shedding madly and now can see their ribs that were covered by matted winter hair before. So, one more delousing, get their feet trimmed and they are ready for their new homes. Would be great if they went together - they've had a rough year so far.
