2010 FOALS I was blissfully enjoying reports and pictures of peoples early foals thinking I had months to wait until I could begin my foaling season and smell my own foal breath when I rounded up mares into a pen because the farrier was coming. Much to my surprise Sacred had a fair size bag on Jan 21st. Up to the house to check and sure enough I had turned Deceived in with her in mid February when he came home from the trainers and marked that he bred her on Feb. 21st. So, we got the barn ready, turned the heat and foaling camera on and started the camera stare routine. Sacred was so nice, she foaled on her due date with no problems at all. Cleaned right away and resumed her favorite occupation of eating. So we introduce to you ----------------------- FASHION TIPS aka Joanna, Jan 31/10 bay tovero filly by Deceived out of Nothings Sacred.
McCarthy - Bay AQHA Colt Freefall, Gray TB Mare - Charlie & McCarthy, her Colt by Dynamics Impression. "Charlie" is such a kind soul, due on my birthday - she waited until April 15th to foal - but she did it before midnight, foaled with a little help and is the proud mom of McCarthy, a elegant, tall bay colt that will be paid into IF and is also eligible for NSBA plus a couple of futurities in the PNW. He has a full sister doing really well with her youth rider. McCarthy and his mom were chosen by Sheryl Hilton to join her ladies down near Calgary.
PENELOPE - Black tobiano Pony Filly Bellarosa, Buckskin Tobiano Pony foaled a beautiful colored filly by Deceived. Belle read the foaling manuals - waxed at 6 pm on April 20th, lots of wax by midnight and at 6am - voila, Penelope arrived with no problems at all. Penelope is a going concern and keeps her mom busy all the time keeping with her. As a result Bellarosa is slimming down and becoming a trim, fancy girl again. Katherine May has a wonderful husband, Jerry who emailed while she was away and bought both Bellarosa and Penelope. Bonus they live nearby so we can go see her gypsy vanner foal next year.
RACHEL - Bay Tobiano filly Spotted Juliet (TB) our lovely Regal Remark daughter had me more than a little concerned. She was HUGE, beyond large, bagged and dripping milk for weeks. I was sure she was carrying twins. On May 1st I did my count the heads out the windows as soon as I get up- and discovered an extra little white bum beside Juliet. Bruce had left 1/2 hr and never noticed her - he was too busy watching Barry aka Deceived carrying on - on the opposite side of the driveway. Rachel, who is a bay tobiano is no bigger than a minute, born with funky front legs and windswept back legs yet made it thru the mud for about 200', then 400 feet up the driveway, stopping to poop without any help from me and was tucked away in a warm dry stall to recover from her trip. We'll post full body px of her in about 30 days. She is a love and the first Barry foal that doesn't have blue eyes. Miss Personality already. And after some TLC, some Rejuveniade, her legs improved to the point she could be sold. Brandi Beltons hubby fell in love with her and off she went to the far north.
CHARLESTON - Bay Tobiano colt Gotta love when the mares read the foaling manual. Barlink Mini Pearl waxed up heavily on her due date May 13th, came into the barn at super time --I decided to turn the camera on while my supper was cooking and discovered she was already foaling - made it in time to see Charleston hit the ground. He is one of those colts you know is good immediately. I thought she could have a top quality show colt and she didn't disappoint me. His one front leg wasn't perfectly straight so he too got the Rejuveniade treatment and he joined Rachel headed up to Dawson Creek, BC
FLETCHER - Black Tovero Colt Beverly also waxed the same time as her friend Mini but waited until 3 am on May 14th to foal. She hasn't had a foal for several years so I was really anticipating this cross and she delivered in spades. Fletcher greeted me at the stall door in the morning. He's tall with funky markings, two blue eyes and lots of look at me. Truly believes everyone was put on earth for him to enjoy. Thanks to Jerome David of France who chose Fletcher to make the long trek to France to join his herd.
BRIDGET - Bay Tobiano filly His mom is sneaky, prefers to foal outside but I've been bringing her in the barn for awhile hoping to thwart her plans. On the evening of May 1th I go down to feed the mares and bring her in - nada, runs off, doesn't want to be caught so I leave her, thinking I'll go back down after supper with oats and capture her. At 9 pm I get off the couch, look out the window and she has already foaled complete with 3 midwives - none of who are thieves. Last year our pony and tall two yr old Leslie stole her filly. Down we go, get a lead shank on her, encourage her boy to get up and then start the march up to the barn. Bruce leads Maci and I get to wrestle the foal thru the old hay (very wet and soggy underneath yet) to the gate, up the hill to the barn. Maci stops and cleans on the way. Once she gets her legs under her, she gets going pretty good, but the first 100' she is leaning back on me with all her weight. Get them tucked away in her stall,s she nurses right away and in less than 10 minutes is snoozing away after her big trip. She's tall, going to be elegant, no blue eyes and has her moms pretty head. It was Maci's due date but no wax, not really soft behind nor were her tits full. Congratulations to Katherine May who bought Bridget and thinks she now may show her next year.
DELECTABLE aka REBECCA - black tovero filly I wanted Carol Rose to foal outside as she is so arthritic she would have trouble getting situated in a stall so put Chickie with her as a midwife and watched her getting ready. Again, no wax, no falling away behind but at 6 am on the morning of May 25th - there she is, proudly waiting to show off her new filly. Rebecca is dry, had breakfast, pooped and mom has cleaned. She is a going concern this girl. Thanks to Corrinne Tateson of the Brooks area for chosing Delectable to join their herd of cutting horses. Think she is going to stand out in that group. LOL ![]() ![]()
TRAVOLTA aka WALTER - black tobiano colt Dancer was overdue, finally waxed up good and we put in a pen for the day after she had a kicking match with Mini. Mid afternoon she foaled, cleaned right away and Walter jumped to his feet to explore his new world. Left them to bond, nurse before bringing them to the barn at supper time. Yahoo -- Walters test results are back - he is double homozygous like his dad - for both the tobiano and black gene. Thanks to our friend, Diane Rougeau of Vernon who made an offer on this boy and is looking fwd to growing him and maybe being her herd sire.
GENE KELLY - minimal bay tobiano colt Been complaining about the rain but when I discovered Gene Kelly I was singing happily the morning of June 9th. Claudia had a drop of wax the night before at supper in the rain and thought "hmm, better bring her in the barn tomorrow or the next day" and the next morning, no Claudia waiting for grain so the search began. Found her tucked away in the bush at the back with Gene Kelly, who was nice and dry, had eaten, pooped and figured out his legs. I left them there because getting them thru the herd of nosy mares with the dog was not my idea of a fun time. An hour later, she brought him down herself and introduced him to his siblings and their moms. He is as fancy as they come, way better than the px I took at about 4/5 hrs old. He already has a secret admirer who wants to come see him on the weekend. His secret admirer did buy him, thanks to Lisa Christianson for choosing him for her HUS prospect.
So all of our 2010 treasures found new owners last fall -- leaving a huge hole here that will soon be filled with their full siblings arriving in late April and early May 2011. |
